Good morning all!
As you may know, I am preparing to take a 4th group of students to Ukraine for a month of service. The interest I have had in Ukraine programs has been as good as I could ever have hoped. I think it will only grow as we continue to get students over there and they return to inform others of their experiences.
I am creating this new discussion because of my program for next summer. We unfortunately have lost two students due to money issues their parents are facing. I dont have exact details and did not ask too many questions since its not my place to delve into their families financial situation.
However, losing these two has put the program in jeopardy of not meeting the budget requirements. If you are involved with any universities and can point a student or two towards us, I have extended the deadline for application through March 1st. They can contact me at waholmes@campbellsville.edu for more info.
Or, and here is a second area where someone can possibly help, we would appreciate any financial aid. If you have information on any grants I can look into to help, I would appreciate knowing but we only have a month to work with. We are a little over $500.00 shy of what we need. It is not much but enough to tank us. I refuse to raise the cost of the students still going to cover this shortfall. At last resort I will offer this option to them but not now. Raising tuition is par for the course for many study abroad program providers but I do not feel this is right. The students are going abroad for service after all, not just to study and receive credit.
Thankfully, after listing this program on the internet, I have received many inquiries from students as far away from here as Washington State and Georgia. If a couple of them decide to go with us then we're good. But I cannot rely on that.
Do you feel this could be an area where in the future we could create, perhaps, an FofU scholarship for study in Ukraine? I could create an application and send the completed ones to the board for approval. Seeing as most would be students on my programs I would sit out the approval process to be fair. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Bill
